On-board Personnel Certificated Officers: Navigation/Deck Marine Engineering Marine Electro Technical Specialist Personnel: Purser Hotel Services Entertainment Service Ratings: Seaman Motormen

Ratings Training  Deck and Engineering Disciplines via a Level 2 Marine Apprenticeship requiring employment and/or sponsorship.  No specific entry criteria ( although typically 3 GCSE’s) however applicants must be over 16 years of age, be able to meet strict medical standards and demonstrate that they have the potential to obtain rating certification and qualifications.

Officer Training  GCSE Entry: HE Access Course followed by Higher National Diploma Entry Criteria: 4 GCSE’s at Grade C or above including Maths, Science and English (or equivalent)  A Level Entry: Foundation Degree Programme Entry Criteria: In addition to GCSE requirement at least 120 UCAS Entry via a Merchant Navy Cadetship Programme

Features of a MN Cadetship  3 Year sandwich programme including sea service and college time  Leads to award of Higher Education Qualification plus first Certificate of Competency  Cadets are sponsored by a shipping/training company who pay all academic and professional fees and in many cases other living expenses plus an allowance.
