Detailed Definition Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems integrate internal and external management information across an entire organization, embracing finance, manufacturing, sales and service etc. ERP systems automate this activity. Purpose of ERP: To facilitate the flow of information between all business functions inside the boundaries of the organization and manage the connections to outside stakeholders. 5

ERP is a software architecture that facilitates the flow of information among the different functions within an enterprise. Similarly, ERP facilitates information sharing across organizational units and geographical locations. 6
