Soy Beans By: Chandler Bunch And Jonathan Hope

How is the crop planted Seed are be planted in cultivated or tilled land by a tractor and a planter which deposits the seed about 1⁄2 inches deep in trenched rows that are usually about 30 inches apart, depending on the farmer.

How is the crop cared for once planted while growing If this is the second year you have had soy beans there in that field there is bacteria from the first year so you need to spray roundup POWERMAX 1 to get rid of all bacteria before planting again.

How is the crop harvested The crop is harvested with a combine. The combine puts the beans thought a process called threshing which is where the combine breaks the beans from there casing.

What equipment is needed to raise and harvest the crop Soy bean drying equipment has a simple construction that uses constant heat to dry soybeans. Straw, coal and rice husks are used to fuel the machinery. The result of the process is a "pollution-free" soybean. Colloid milling machine the colloid milling machine mixes and grinds the soybeans using continuous high speed and abrasion. The force of the machinery evenly disperses and emulsifies the soybeans to create an even consistency.

Why is it important for this crop to be grown Soybeans vary in protein from %,they also vary in oil fro 17-45%. So this product is used for protein in schools, most schools have switched over to soy burgers because they are better for the school body to eat.

What is the market for this crop The price depends on the month you are selling your crop. It could be from $9.00 to $10.50 per bu. In years pass the prices has been as low as $5.00 to $6.00 per bu.

What region or place of the country is this crop grown in This crop is mostly grown in the northern parts of the United States, the crop grows in about and dry climate that tobacco and corn will grow in. The crop does need rain but will not grow in any type of swamp land, the roots get to much rain and burns up the roots.

What can this crop be used for This product can be used to make foods. It can be used to trade for other crops like wheat. Cheaper way of making diesel fuels. Can be used to feed life stock such as pigs.

What products can come from this crop Soy saucecooking oils Soy burgersalcohol Bee foods diesel fuels Swine feed Creamers Salad dressings Milks

Time line Ground needs to be treated which means it needs to be disked from past crop. Then you can plant the beans the next day. Then after the beans are planted for at least 2 days you need to spray the beans, the beans will approach the top of the soil in about 2 days. Beans are usually harvested around 3 to 5 months after they was planted.

Is this crop used by the farmer or usually sold for money The farmer uses the beans to feed there animals such as beef cattle, hogs, and dairy cows. The crop is also traded and sold.

Other basic info…. It takes 3-7 days for the beans to become mature before the plant starts to turn yellow and come fully mature. In the begging soybean seed from China was planted by a colonist in the British colony of Georgia in Benjamin Franklin sent some soybean seeds to a friend to plant in gardens.
