SAFF File (Standard Alternate File Format) The SAFF file is the standard format accepted by many Clearing Houses and Funds. Questions and Answers raised… Q - If we have Defined Benefit funds as well as Accumulation funds, what is the plan to add Defined Benefits into the SAFF? A - At this stage, Defined Benefit contributions are not included in this version of the SAFF. Contributions and frequencies of payment can vary depending on the Defined Benefit fund. It is advised that you continue to report your Defined Benefit contributions in the same way that the Defined Benefit fund specifies and exclude these fund codes from your SAFF output by using the “Clearing House” field on the Superannuation Fund record in Empower. Defined Benefit contributions will be included in future versions of the SAFF

Questions and Answers raised… Q - What is the format of the SAFF? A - The Standard Alternative File Format will output as a Comma Separated Values (csv) file Hint: If required, Open this using Notepad as this will ensure dates stay in the CCYY-MM-DD format

Questions and Answers raised… Q - We have been told by ClickSuper that a conformance level of “A” is required? A - There are three conformance levels for certification of the SAFF – Bronze (SAFF), Silver (B) and Gold (A). The SAFF file as a product in itself only requires Bronze certification. The full lodgment service using ClickSuper as a partner, utilizing the SAFF requires Gold (A) certification. Note: Fusion5 are working on getting both certifications allowing our customers to use the SAFF on their own or to take advantage of our offering to lodge the file on our customers behalf, using our partnership with ClickSuper as a Clearing House.

Questions and Answers raised… Q - We currently use Query Manager to extract Superannuation details in a format that our Super Fund requires, however manual intervention is required to include any employees that have terminated. Will the SAFF include terminated employees? A - Yes, the SAFF will output contributions for Active (“e”) and Terminated (“t”) employees, that have been processed within the date range specified when running the extract. You will not need to manually add the contributions for terminated employees to your file.

Questions and Answers raised… Q - We are currently using a Clearing House, will we need to change Clearing Houses? Also, will our Clearing House require the use of the SAFF? A - Different Clearing Houses may have different requirements. It is best you speak directly with the Clearing House you are currently using to see if: – They are already SuperStream Compliant? – Will the format for lodging your Super contributions through them change as part of SuperStream compliance and/or what extra data will need to be provided in the future? – Will they accept the SAFF for lodgment of Default and Choice of Fund contributions? Note: Please note, use of the SAFF is by mutual agreement between your Default Fund/Clearing House and you as the employer.

Questions and Answers raised… Q - I have been reading the specification document regarding the SAFF and it mentions that some data such as BSB, Account Number, Payment Method etc. is ‘provided by Clearing House’. Where do I store this data in Empower? A – If the SAFF extract has the parameter set to ‘y’ in the bank details parameter, the bank details will be extracted from the ABN information, otherwise these fields will be left blank and updated by the Clearing House or Service Provider.

Questions and Answers raised… Q - Part of the SP5 upgrade involves the addition of a Country Code control table to Empower. How does this affect any Country-specific data that already exists? A – Eemployees' with a Country other than Australia will need to have the Country field updated to a valid Country from the Country Codes table. IF there is no entry in the country control table for the country, users can enter it

Questions and Answers raised… Q - We understand that you have a partnership with ClickSuper to offer a service to Empower clients. What will this service include? A - Generally, this service will cover generation of a SAFF file and its lodgment via ClickSuper by EPS, on behalf of the Client. Clients will need to undertake a registration process to establish this. At this stage the service is open to our Cloud5 customers only. The scope of the service to include further work can be tailored to meet individual Client’s needs or desires.
