Process Planning Strategy 4 components – Activities – Results – Resources – Agent An Activity uses Resources to produce Results performs Based on the framework model – we have 4 key steps to develop process maps for a given generic task. Identify the agent involved Identify the set of activities that make up a particular task Identify the intermediate and end result for every activity Identify what resources will be consumed for the completion of the task. For a given Generic Task (eg: take Cost Estimation) AgentActivityResourceResult Step 4: Identify the Agent – organization/department/project group or person - who is responsible to perform this task Step 5: Hierarchically decompose the task into a set of activities.

For any Activity (eg: take Calculate quantities) Step 6: Define the dependency with other activities. Step 7: The team should identify the typical method of accomplishing any activity/task. – If there is a specific method, then it should be inserted here. Step 8: To perform every activity within the task (repeat a-c) a)RESOURCE: Identify the resource to be used b)RESULT: Define intermediate and final results in the form of BIM models, and the information exchange required for the activity. c)AGENT: the agent performing the activity. For a given Generic Task (eg: Preliminary Cost Estimation) Step 9: Check if the results have been met – eg: decision making criteria, entry – exit criteria. Step 10: The feedback to be provided to other agents concerned (eg: the client for his approval of the estimation, the designer etc.) Step 11: Document, review and redesign this process for further use. Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) BPMN is a graphical representation for specifying business processes in a workflow. ElementDescriptionNotation Event There are three types of Events, based on when they affect the flow: Start, Intermediate, and End. Activity An activity is a generic term for work that company performs Sequence Flow A Sequence Flow is used to show the order that activities will be performed in a Process Association An Association is used to associate information with Flow Objects. Data Object Data Objects are considered Artifacts because they do not have any direct effect on the Sequence Flow or Message Flow of the Process, but they do provide information about what activities require to be performed and/or what they produce
