Mentor Coordinator Responsibilities ( Standards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6) Leads in the program design and creation - (2) Create and design documents - (1, 3) Recruit proficient and exemplary teachers – (5) Train teachers for the Model Teacher (mentor) position – (6) Leads in creating a positive environment for both Model Teachers and Proteges’ - (4) Collaboration with Model Teachers – (4)

Mission Statement (Standards 2 &3) The purpose of the North Palos School District #117 Teacher Induction program is to focus on beginning teachers’ teaching performance, improve student performance, and reflective abilities of new teachers and teachers new to the district through a two-year formal mentoring program. This teacher induction program will facilitate and promote the highest level of professional development focusing on the Illinois Teaching Standards.

Program Goals (Standard 2) Promote self-reflective practice Support teachers in learning and development Increase teacher retention Identify and train quality Model Teachers Enhance teaching performance emphasizing Illinois Teaching Standards, standard based instruction, and concentrating on the Danielson Evaluation Framework Provide professional development and training

Model Teacher Recruitment (Standards 5 & 6) Must apply for the position. Qualifications: Proficient or Exemplary Evaluations Tenured Faculty Match to Grade Level, Department, or Content Area Administrators Recommendation Participate in Training, Professional Development, and Meetings

Model Teacher Training (Standards 5 & 6) Confidentiality - discuss program goals - responsibilities - program expectations - monthly responsibilities - mini-workshops - standards - Danielson Framework

Goals – Model Teachers (Standard 2) Help to: Develop collaborative professional teams Create and develop a self-reflective and analytical teaching practice Guide the implementation of effective classroom management, instruction and professional responsibility Assist in developing teaching strategies across the curriculum Develop teaching performance with an emphasis on all standards and the Danielson Evaluation Framework

Model Teacher Responsibility ( Standards 2 & 3) Formal Observations Pre and Post Observation Conferences Observation Feedback – including Danielson Performance Components Reflection Feedback Reflection Analysis Documentation of Evidence for specific lessons Informal Observations Conduct Mini-Workshops: - Tat - PBIS - Report Cards - Parent Conferences

Goals – Proteges’ (Standard 2) Create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning and self motivation Demonstrate teaching strategies that promote effective instruction Reflect upon instructional methods, classroom management and student behavior to improve teaching practice Implement organizational management strategies that meet job expectations *Develop relationships with colleagues, parents, and community Establish and pursue professional goals

Protégé Responsibilities (Standards 7 & 8) Included in the Program: Reflections Pre and Post Conferences Observations Lesson Plans (2) Evidence (Danielson)

Reflections/Observations ( Standards 7 & 8) Reflections: - Weekly or Monthly - Quarterly Observations: - Eight Observations (including Danielson Framework) - Four Model Teacher Observations - Four Protégés Observations

Lesson Plans ( Standards 7 & 8) Lesson Plans: - one per semester Includes: Written Analysis of Lessons Strength and Weaknesses Written Report for the teachers own teaching in relation to the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards or Common Core Standards. For two Separate Lessons the teacher must assemble the following documentation: - Written Lesson Plans - Assignments from the students - Samples of students’ work - Assessment instruments

Danielson Framework (Standards 2 & 3) How do we incorporate the Danielson Evaluation Framework? Reflections (monthly & quarterly): - Domains 1, 2, 3, or 4 - Performance Components Observations: - Include Domain, Performance Component, and Evidence used in the lesson being observed
