Cell Structure: Nucleus, Nuclear Envelope, and the Nucleolus By: Esteban Garcia

THE Nucleus

Function: the nucleus Regulation of Cell Activity: the nucleus can be described as the “brain” of a cell The nucleus is the control center of cells, it is like our brain because it makes sure any processes that must happen in the cell happen (reproduction, movement, eating, etc.) , the same way our brain tell our body what to do in order for us to survive.

function: The nucleus DNA STORAGE: Another important function of the nucleus is that it stores hereditary information. - The nucleus stores most of the genetic information of a cell. - The cell nucleus also contains the cell’s DNA.

Structure: Cell nucleus The cell nucleus is composed of many different parts. The main parts of a cell’s nucleus are the nuclear envelope and the nucleolus, but it also has pores, nucleoplasm, and chromosomes.

The Nucleus

The nuclear envelope

Function: The nuclear envelope The nuclear envelope is the part of the nucleus that surrounds the nucleus, hence the name “nuclear envelope” The main function of the nuclear envelope is to keep the nucleus separated from the rest of the cell Another important function is that it allows materials to flow in and out of it’s pores and therefore out of the nucleus

Structure: The nuclear envelope The nuclear envelope is made up of a phospholipid bilayer The nuclear envelope is made up of a phospholipid bilayer The nuclear envelope also has pores which allow the nucleus to communicate with the other organelles within a cell, by allowing certain molecules in and out of the nucleus.

The nuclear envelope

The Nucleolus

Function: nucleolus The nucleolus is part of the cell’s nucleus, and it is basically the “brain” of a nucleus. The main function of the nucleolus is to put together the subunits of ribosomes.

Structure: The Nucleolus The nucleolus is made up of three main components The three main components of the nucleolus are: fibrillar centers (FC) dense fibrillar centers (DFC) granular components (GC)
