INTRODUCTION

Department Policy The Department of Environmental Protection recognizes that it has the obligation to provide for the health and safety of all employees, visitors, and the general public who may come into contact and interact with official activities.

FDEP Loss Control Management

The Application of Professional Management skills to the Control of Loss from the risks of doing business

Loss Control Anything done to reduce Loss from the pure Risks of Business. The reduction of Loss when Loss-Producing events occur. The prevention of Loss Exposures. Termination or avoidance of risk.

The Loss Control Management Program A comprehensive approach designed to provide direct support to the Loss Control Management Policy. Administered by the Safety program Coordinator’s and the Department’s Safety Committee.

Loss Control is a vital part of every organization. To be done efficiently it requires a professional approach. Major reasons: –employees are responsible for the health and safety of others. –managing safety provides significant opportunities for managing costs and –Safety/loss control management provides an operational strategy to improve overall management.

General Information Planned program that is designed for the prevention of incidents and accidents. Achieved through a complete health and safety hazard control program. Involves preventing employee injuries, occupational illnesses, and accidental damage to the Department’s property.

General Information LCM is a financial mechanism for management. LCM includes worker’s compensation, review of WC claims, accident investigation, and implementation of safety policies and procedures in order to prevent future problems.

Loss Control Management Goals identify all loss exposures evaluate the risk in each exposure develop a plan implement the plan monitor the plan

Major targets for the Loss Control Program on the job injury and illness off the job injury and illness fire and explosion general property damage absenteeism general and administrative liability alcohol and other drug abuse wasteful behavior natural catastrophic loss production delay and interruption management system inadequacies employee morale

Risk Assessment Risk assessment is the process used to determine the risk under which the Department operates regarding all DEP activity.

Health and Safety Plan This is the Department’s comprehensive plan implemented to reach the goal of reducing the number, and costs of injuries, occupational illnesses, general liabilities, and property damage related to accidents.

Loss Control Action A detailed description that specifies what will be done, how things will get done, and who will be responsible for ensuring that things are done.
