TASK CONDUCT A ROUTE RECON (5-4-0401)
CONDITION THE SQUAD/SECTION IS TASKED TO PERFORM A ROUTE RECONNAISSANCE OVER A SPECIFIED ROUTE. THE AREA IS SECURE BUT ENEMY CONTACT WITH SQUAD-SIZE OR SMALLER ELEMENTS IS POSSIBLE. SOME ITERATIONS SHOULD NOT BE DONE IN MOPP-4
STANDARDS THE SQUAD/SECTION USE THE CORRECT SYMBOLS TO PREPARE AND SUBMIT AN OVERLAY IDENTIFYING ALL OBSTACLES, OBSTRUCTIONS, TERRAING FEATURES, CRITICAL MEASURMENTS, DIMENSIONS AND CLASSIFICATIONS ARE ACCURATE WITHIN PLUS OR MINUS 10 PERCENT. THE SQUAD COMPLETES THE ECONNAISSANCE NLT THE TIME SPECIFIED IN THE OPORD
TASK STEPS AND STANDARDS THE SQUAD LEADER PLANS THE ROUTE RECON a) PERFORMS A MAP ORIENTATION TO ID THE ROUTE AND START/STOP POINTS b) ESTABLISHES THE RECON OBJECTIVES (OBSTACLE LOCATION, TRAFFICABILITY AND WATER POINTS). c) REQUESTS A SECURITY TEAM TO SUPPORT THE RECON IN THE EVENT OF ENEMY CONTACT (2 PERSONELL PER SQUAD) d) PLANS FOR A DOUBLE FLOW OF TRACKED VEHICLES (UNLESS OTHERWISE DIRECTED BY THE COMMANDER).

SINGLE FLOW: 5.5M TO 7.3M WHEEL, 6M TO 8M TRACK 2. DOUBLE FLOW: AT LEAST 7.3M WHEEL, 8M TRACK 3. IN THE ABSENCE OF GUIDANCE, RECONS FOR DOUBLE FLOW TRACK TRAFFIC.
