Using the ELPS

What are ELPS? English Language Proficiency Standards ELPS are a set of standards that all ELL (LEP) students should master as they acquire English proficiency ELL- English Language Learner LEP – Limited English Proficient ELPS are a set of standards that all ELL (LEP) students should master as they acquire English proficiency. ELL- English Language Learner LEP – Limited English Proficient ELL and LEP are both used interchangeably to describe this group of students.

Proficiency Level Descriptors Use the PLDs to determine the needs of each ELL as you plan your lessons. PLDs describe the characteristics of each proficiency level (beginning, intermediate, advanced, and advanced high).
