Together Everyone Achieves More Team: A group of individuals working together to achieve a shared goal or goals.

Think about the teams that you have been on in the past…at school, in sports, at work, in clubs, at home, with friends, etc. Choose one of those teams that has been particularly successful. Write it down.

Write down some reasons that you believe that team was a good one. Share your characteristics of affective team.

Characteristics of An Effective Team The shared goal is clearly defined. The team has a game plan. Team members recognize the strengths and weaknesses of fellow team members. Team members support one another.

Characteristics of An Effective Team Team members communicate clearly & frequently, especially concerning the shared goal(s) and the game plan. The game plan is changed by consensus only. The leader is positive and involves all teammates. Kindness

Think again about the teams that you have been on in the past…at school, in sports, at work, in clubs, at home, with friends, etc. Choose one of those teams that has not successful. Write it down.

Write down some reasons that you believe that team was not successful. Share some characteristics of an ineffective team.

Beware of Pitfalls! Characteristics of an Ineffective Team Members not Taking Responsibility- “someone else will do it” Time Wasting - complaining or “goofing” rather than focusing on the goal Too many quarterbacks and not enough offensive linemen.

Beware of Pitfalls! Characteristics of an Ineffective Team Submarining – “I knew it wouldn’t work” Blaming - “That wasn’t my job” or “he/she is the one that was supposed to do that” Slackers – Lack of participation Task Hog - Failure to share the work and/or glory

Beware of Pitfalls! Characteristics of an Ineffective Team Bossiness – Not trusting teammates or putting them down Failure to act like adults and treat others like adults. Know-it-alls
