LEARNED ABOUT RESEARCH LEARNED ABOUT MIGRAINES

Things I knew Migraines can be very severe in pain levels. Migraines can cause the sufferer to miss school or work. Topamax is an anti-seizure medicine but is used to prevent migraines. Tylenol normally does not help make the pain of a migraine decrease.

Things I learned about research Easybib.com is a tool used to do works cited with just having certain titles and/or ISBN numbers. When I find an article on Power Library, I can tag it so it will stay in my delicious account and I can access it where ever I need to.

Things I learned about migraines 24 million people in the United States suffer from migraines. Migraines are primary headaches and usually aren’t life threatening.

Things I wanted to know Are migraines hereditary? How do migraines affect your everyday life? Is there a cure to migraines? What age can you be for migraines to start? What types of Medicine do you take for migraines? What diet should you be on to avoid migraines?

Are migraines hereditary? Migraines tend to run in families and 75% of teens that suffer migraines have at least one person in their immediate family. Family members sometimes think that the sufferer is just being overly dramatic or lazy so they can get out of work or school.

How do migraines affect your everyday life? Migraines cause people to miss out on sports, social activities, housework, vacations, and special occasions. Also, missing school and work causing them to try to catch up and causing stress. Guilt is common with migraine sufferers because they are missing out so they think they have to explain themselves.

Is there a cure to migraines? There is not a cure to migraines but there are medicines that can be used to help prevent migraines.

What age can you be for migraines to start? Common age of migraine sufferers are between the ages of 25 and 45. Migraines can affect a child as young as the age of two. Children of the age of five have been diagnosed with recurring migraines.

What types of Medicine do you take for migraines? Aspirin, Acetaminophen(Tylenol), and Ibuprofen are used as pain relievers and to reduce swelling. Antidepressants can be taken to regulate serotonin levels causing less migraines. Anti-Seizure Medications such as Topiramate and Divalproex Sodium can be taken as a daily pill to reduce the amount of migraines.

What diet should you be on to avoid migraines? There is no specific diet to avoid trigger a migraine The best way to create a diet to keep a migraine journal that contains what you ate, when you got the migraine, how long it lasted, and so on. This creates a diet for you to go off of what foods trigger your migraines.

Why I choose migraines I choose the topic of migraines because last year I was diagnosed with recurring migraines. For years I had experienced headaches and they prevented me from participating in activities that I would have liked to until last year when my doctors came up with a plan to get my migraines under control. After months on testing and no signs I was finally diagnosed.
