Personal Development & Career Planning Awareness of Self

An autobiography an account of a person's life written by that person. My Autobiography This project will be on-going for the first couple of weeks of Personal Development and Career Planning class. Each day, a new page or two will be introduced. Students will keep the good copy of their project in a duo-tang, while they will need a binder for the rest of the material in PD 9.

Instructions Each page of this project must be decorated in some way: Colour Images Decorations Follow directions carefully, but please be creative as well Each page must contain the title I have included with each page number, except the title page You will be asked to share something from this project The assignment can be completed as a scrapbook, PowerPoint, Prezi or video.

Page 1 – Title Page You must choose a title for your autobiography e.g. Me – Stories of My Life Your title page must have… A picture or a drawing of you Your name Decorated with colour and interesting images that represent you. You can draw, print or include pictures.

Page 2 – The Day I Became Me This page must have a photo of you as a baby (if this is possible), or an illustration of a baby.

Page 3 – My Family I realize that in this day and age, some family units are very different from others. The most important thing for this page is that you identify people who are important to you (not friends, though, they are on a different page!). Please feel free to discuss any concerns you may have about this page with me. I am sure we can come to an agreement about what you should include.

Page 3 – My Family Your page must include: Pictures (or images) of each of your family members. Minimum of four pictures. Identify each member by writing his/her full name and his/her relationship to you. You may want to do aunts/uncles/cousins or grandparents if you wish.

Page 4 – I am Unique! Use the outline below to complete this page. Physical Appearance Brown Hair Brown Eyes 5 foot 8 inches 44 years young Use the outline below to complete this page. Describe your physical appearance with at least four characteristics. What do you look like? e.g. Hair and eye colour Make a list of three of your strengths. Make a list of three of your weaknesses. Strengths Hard working Caring Love to learn new things Weaknesses Nervous of speaking during an assembly Trusting Expectations of myself are sometimes unrealistic

Page 5 – Nothing But Feelings Describe your sentiments/ emotions using the sentence starters to the right: I am happy when… I read a good book I dislike it when… people are rude I become frustrated when… students refuse to try an assignment I am sad when… someone I care about is hurt Add a minimum of four pictures

Page 6 – These Are A Few of My Favourite Things This page lists, in no particular order, the things you love the most. Write each one in a sentence and be sure to have an image that represents each one. You should be able to list at least 4 of your favourites. Family and Friends Reading Swimming and Hiking Travel Add a minimum of two pictures.

Page 7 – My Pet Peeves! Pet peeves are the things that irritate you in daily life. They don’t particularly anger you, but they are annoying. You should be able to list at least three pet peeves. Be sure to include an example to explain your pet peeve. Add a minimum of two pictures.

Page 8 – When I Grow Up… This page is all about the future…yours in particular. Everyone at this point in his/her life has thought about what he/she would like to be when he/she grows up. Some are quite convinced, while others are still deciding. With this in mind, answer the following questions in complete sentences, with images to support your ideas.

Page 8 – When I Grow Up… Name your first choice of career Find a picture of someone doing this job or of something that represents this job. Discuss the reasons why you would like to perform this job in the future.

Page 9 – I Think I Can, I Think I Can… Teen Talk Goals for the Future Be the “little engine that could” on this page. What are your dreams and goals? What do you want to achieve with your life or in your lifetime? List 3 goals that you have for yourself. They could be immediate goals or long term ones as well. Add a minimum of two pictures.

Page 10 – Friends, Friends, Friends! Let’s face it- friends are the most important part of your life at the moment. This page is dedicated to those special people you consider friends. You may wish to discuss only one, or several. Please take the time to describe your friend. What makes her/him a good friend? Add a photo or quote about friendship to the page.

Page 11 – If I Could Change One Thing… Even though we like ourselves (or should like ourselves), there may be something you would like to work on or change about yourself. This could be a personality trait or a physical characteristic. Using a few key sentences, describe what you would like to improve upon or change and why. Be specific. If you don’t want to improve upon or change anything, be sure to explain that as well.

Page 12 – “If” Statements Even though we all have our own reality, sometimes we wonder about what would happen if… Fill in the statements below with genuine, honest and thoughtful answers. If I won a million dollars I would… Travel to: Amsterdam, Netherlands Charleston South Carolina Lucerne, Switzerland New Orleans, Louisiana Paris, France San Francisco, California Stockholm, Sweden

Page 13 – My Idol Most of us have someone we look up to or who is very important to us in our lives. This person represents something very meaningful. Identify the person who is most important to you. Describe this person, tell his/her relationship to you. Why he/she is your idol.

Page 14 – Yummy Stuff! Everyone has food likes and dislikes. What you like to eat may be disliked by someone else. Make a list of your four favourite things to eat – from actual meals to snacks.

Page 15 - Freebie This page is for you to decide! Be creative and fill the page with four fun facts about you.
