Which Root Beer should you get? A Feasibility Report by: Robert Dixon Robin Dehoyos Jason Erdman

Introduction We asked 12 participants to sample Staff Recommended Root Beer from the store Atomic Candy and decide which ones they liked the best. The Staff’s Top Choices were: Margo’s Bark Dachsund’s Spring Grove Zuberfizz Mason’s

Introduction (cont’d) The criteria we based the test on was as follows Taste Low Cost Low Calories Sugar Cane/Artificial Flavoring

Methods We asked various questions on our sample sheet for people to answer. Taste – Write opinions on the flavor Specific Characteristics - what made it taste good/bad? Would you like another? Overall rating was to begin scoring process Root BeerTasteSpecific Characteristics Would you like another? (Y/N) Overall Rating (1-10) Margo’s Bark Dachsund’s Spring Grove Zuberfizz Mason’s

Methods (Points) Taste The taste score was based on individual ratings from our samplers. Cost Ranked from least expensive (4 points) to the most expensive (1 point). Low Calories Ranked from fewest calories (5 points) to the most calories (1 point). Sugar Cane/Artificial Flavoring Automatic 3 points based on the soda’s characteristic. Weight makes the difference

Methods (Weighting) First we added up the various total scores from each category. Next, we took that total and made it our numerator. Finally, we converted each category’s score into a percentage based on the overall total. Once each category has its weight determined, we combine it with their individual scores. Each Root Beer’s scores are totaled together to determine their final rank. How Important is… (0-10) Taste Low Cost Low Calories Sugar Cane Artificial Flavoring

Results We multiplied each rootbeer’s total score each category by its percent of importance to get the weighted total. This helped us find which root beer scored the best. The next slide shows our results.

Conclusion Based on testing using our weighted scales points, we were able to use our results to figure which Root Beer participants favored the most. The root beers which had many favorable qualities such as low price and natural flavor, along with great taste were determined. Recommendation: We recommend Dachsund Root Beer, since it had the highest total. Funny Note, only half our participants said they would like another sample of Dachsund root beer. This likely has to do with it’s low cost and low calorie factors.
