The Underground Railroad By: Darren Evans

Isaac Hopper Known as the “father” of the Underground Railroad. He influenced many people to help escaped slaves head towards the North. He began to organize a system for hiding and aiding fugitive slaves. (“Underground Railroad”) (“ Lighting Freedoms Road”)

Escaped Slaves Runaway slaves usually hid during the day and travelled at night. By the mid 19 th Century, over 50,000 slaves had escaped from the South using the Underground Railroad The amount of runaways was so high, Congress passed the Fugitive Slave Act. (“Underground Railroad”)
