Moving the Carolina Hurricanes

Reasons to Move Carolina have lowest operating income in the NHL, (-11.5 million). This is the income before tax.

Reasons to move to Hartford Attempts have already been made to bring the Whalers back by fans. The Connecticut Whalers were made in 2010 in the AHL(the NHL’s minor league affiliate). Fans aren’t happy with a 2 nd rate team.

Why call them “Whalers?” The state animal of Connecticut is the sperm whale.

The RBC Center 6 th lowest average fan attendance in the NHL. Only have an 18,639 person capacity. Even with a packed building every night, the teams average attendance would only move to 11 th in the league.

Move for a larger stadium and fan base. Potential Stadium Address in Hartford 55 Wawarme Ave, Hartford CT

Cities getting an old team back are appreciative It was just an exhibition game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, but the smallest arena in the league was packed with just over 15,000 jersey-wearing, ecstatic fans who screamed their lungs out at the MTS Centre. -Chicago Tribune on the 2011 return of the Winnipeg Jets

Hartford will appreciate their teams rebirth Old Hartford Whalers New Hartford Whalers ???

Hartford’s old stadium, and the smallest in the league. Hartford Civic Center HCC Roof Collapsed in 1978

“Hartford Whalers merchandise is the hottest selling merchandise in the NHL.” –NBC News, 2011 Despite no longer being a team, the Whalers currently have the most popular apparel in the NHL

This fan base would be our beginning target market. Eventually moving to include a majority of hockey fans in the area. The already large fan base would lower the need for promotion in the beginning. This makes them a good target market.

They may have more fans at first from the Connecticut area. The Boston Bruins And the Philadelphia Flyers are the closest competition Early Competition

Problems to fix The area to build the stadium has to be purchased, demolished, and rebuilt into a stadium. The stadium needs to be at least to be at least 17,000 people to be able to compete with Boston’s capacity of 17,565 and Philadelphia’s 19,537

Advertising 2 Digital billboards along the I-84 would be 5,00 dollars. The I-84 cuts across Connecticut and goes through the center of Hartford. The Billboards would be in Northeast and Southwest Harford. The other 5,000 dollars will be spent Creating and airing a 15 second commercial on the NHL Network.

Ticket prices We will have $30 tickets for the upper deck and further back from the ice. The seats near the glass will only be up to $175 each. Philadelphia Flyers tickets are up to $214 each for first section seats, and $30 For upper deck, with range in between.
