What is your favorite article of clothing? (Shirt, Shorts, Skirt, Shoes, etc.) 2. How much do you think (or know) that piece of clothing costs? 3. On average, how much do you think your parents spend on groceries per month?

Clothing, Food, and Sundries Objective: Students will understand how much clothing, food, and sundries cost and how to budget for them.

Clothing What types of clothes need to be purchased now and in your future? – Professional clothes for your job. – Normal clothes for outings – Workout clothes – Swim clothes – Coats – Kids’ clothes

Purchasing Clothes Activity 82 Where are you going to buy the clothes? – Are you going to sew your own clothes? – Purchase from a thrift store? – Buy from discount or outlet stores? – Only buy on sale clothing? – Purchase from specialty stores (Macy’s, Men’s Warehouse, Urban Outfitters, etc) – Buy designer fashions What size wardrobe do you want?

Activity 83 Who are you purchasing clothes for? How much will it cost for each person per year? Total the amount and put under the “Annual Family Total.” Divide the figure by 12 to get your monthly clothing budget. Put that number under [3] Clothing on Activity 92.

Food How much food do you want to purchase for your family? Do you want to live frugally, utilize a Low- cost plan, Moderate plan, or the Liberal plan? Do you make specialty foods for yourself? – Do you eat organic foods? – Are you on a specialty diet like the Paleo diet? If so, you will need a higher budget for your food purchases.

Activity 84 Look at the chart in your TEXTBOOK page 85. Are you single? Family of 4? Ages of children? Put the dollar amount under the Food total that corresponds with the food plan you want. Enter that dollar amount under [4] Food on Activity 92.

Sundries Sundries are the little things you pick up a the drug or grocery store. Shampoo, deodorant, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, etc. Place that amount at the bottom of Activity 84. Finally, place that number under [5] Sundries on Activity 92.
