Who can be a member?  Anyone over 18 years of age!  Who is committed enough to be willing to put in efforts for self-excellence!

What does a club member do?  Attend the club meetings  Follow the guided programme –Evolved over 88 years

What does a club member do?  In addition, experienced members-  –Help other club members become better speakers (Mentor them) –Help the club in its functioning

How does it work?  Learn-by-doing, Self-Paced Program  Weekly practice:  Delivering speeches -- prepared or impromptu  Filling meeting roles  No instructor

How is a typical meeting conducted?  3 sections –Impromptu Speaking –Prepared speeches –All speeches evaluated

What happens in the Impromptu Section?  One member ‘tables’ the topics or throws challenges  Speaker -- Volunteers / nominated  1 to 2 minutes

And Prepared Speech Section?  Follow a graded programme, as per the manual  Deliver speeches on own topics  Suggested format  Try to meet the objectives

Speech Evaluation...  Senior members give constructive feedback  Best part of the programme  Positive, encouraging feedback with suggestions for improvement!

Decisions for the club?  The Club Members themselves!  For smooth functioning, each club has - –A President –3 Vice Presidents (handling Education & Training, Membership and Public Relations) –Secretary, Treasurer & Sergeant-at-arms

Mentoring provided for the club? Hierarchy of service leadership.  Area =4-5 clubs & Area Governor to guide  Division = some Areas & DVG to guide  District = some Divisions & Top 3 to guide –District Governor, LGET, LGM  Initial Hand-Holding

Mentoring provided for these?  Regular training for all posts  Speech contests at each level & the winners go ahead  Conferences 2 / year

Toastmasters club is NOT  A bureau of great speakers – but a place where ordinary people gather & become better speakers  a program for improving English, but your language may improve automatically

Financial Implications  Dues US$ 6 per month  One time joining fee US $ 20  Charter fee for the club is US $ 125 (one time)

Other Fees & Details  Pins, badges, trophies etc.,  Transport & tokens of appreciation  Attend the 2 conferences.  100 ~ 120 Rs pm local expenses  Per head: Rs (OT) &  Rs. 450 pm

Costs for Certifications  To get such training in India,…  Rs / certification. Much less here  + Can complete multi certifications / year  It is not much, when you consider what you ‘become’ after 1-2 years!

Time commitment > $!  Time pm invested in meetings 6-8 hrs  Executive committee members 1-2 hrs  Pres / VPE need to give + 1hr / week  Plus prepare own speeches

BUT- IT IS ALL WORTH IT!... Once you undergo the training & benefit from this programme, you are going to feel great & say- “ It was definitely worth it!”
