Children of technology How to attract students’ attention, being ‘’Children of technology’’?

The aim The aim of our presentation is to promote development of important skills to increase cognitive and intelectual abilities of students in Chemistry at Secondary school.

How to develop a crossword puzzle with Hot potatoes? 1. Add title

 Select  Select the menu “Manage grid’’, submenu ‘’Automatic grid-maker’’;  Enter  Enter the maximum number of cells in the puzzle box ‘’Maximum grid size’’;  Enter  Enter all words, each word on new line;  Click  Click on ‘’Make the grid’’. How to create a crossword grid automatically?

3. How to add clues?  Press  Press the button ‘’Add clues’’. At the top of the screen are the words in the crossword which are in horizontal position and at the bottom – vertically extending.  Introduce  Introduce the definitions  Mark the word;  Enter the definition;  Press ‘’OK’’., press  Once entered all definitions of the words, press the button ‘’OK’’, which is marked in green on the bottom of the window.

 Check the row ‘’Show all clues below the crossword grid’’;  Press ‘’OK’’.

4.2 How to convert the crossword into a web page?

5. Do not forget to save the file. Then it is possible create  to create a new puzzle in the block program - press ‘’File’’, than ‘’New”; move on  to move on to another module of Hot potatoes.

The electonic crossword is supposed to be done by students: in class /the students are being devided into groups, each group make a crossword working on different learning content and than the groups exchange the crosswords, which they have to solve for defined time/ or at home /the aim is reinforcement of knowledge/

Creating and solving a crossword is a type of interactive method. Interactive educational atmosphere leads to changing the roles of "the teacher and the student" it increases students’ activity, their freedom of choice, etc., which leads to breaking relations "teacher- student". Interactive learning atmosphere allows combining interactive methods of education and traditional teaching methods. The game is a good opportunity to update the students’ knowledge or even to examine them because the teacher has the opportunity to test students' knowledge, while they have fun and give all by themselves.
