CLASS DEMOGRAPHICS Analysis of student’s TV habits between the ages of 17 and 19. Produced by Alice Marchant, Zara Lane, Rhian Norman, and Amy Lidstone.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU WATCH TV? The response for this question shows that most students between the ages of 17 and 19 watch TV every day. This could be as a stress reliever or as a way to wind down after work or college. Also shows that this age group enjoy the programs shown on the TV.

HOW MANY HOURS DO YOU WATCH PER SITTING? This graph shows that most students watch TV for 1 hour a day, so that could be to watch a specific program or as something to wind down before bed or going out. There were more females in the survey than males, so this could be reflective of a demographic for a female characteristic.

WHAT TIME OF DAY DO YOU USUALLY WATCH TV? This chart shows that students watch TV mostly between 6pm and 12am. So it is mostly an evening occurrence, which suggests busy days for either college or work. It also shows that it is a wind down to escape reality before going to sleep. It also shows that most students watch post watershed programs on TV.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TV PROGRAM? This chart shows that the most watched TV programs are Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. These are both quite graphic programs, so it shows that students like to watch more adult programs in their free time, as both are rated 18 certified. Also they are both post watershed.

MOST WATCHED TV CHANNEL? The most watched TV channel is E4 which shows a lot of comedy programs, so it shows that most students like to watch light hearted TV in the evenings. So this would be a demographic to show that students like comedy and to feel light-hearted. Especially in the evenings when they watch TV the most.

HOW DO YOU WATCH TV? This chart shows that the majority of students watch TV on a television, the classic way of watching programs. This shows that this generation hasn’t completely converted to internet viewings, although a small percentage of students do watch TV on the internet. This is something we will investigate further.

FAVOURITE GENRE OF TV? The favourite genre of TV show is comedy. This matches up with the favourite TV Channel, however it doesn’t match up with the favourite TV shows. So this could be as a result of people watching mindless comedy, but really getting into a drama which was the genre of both the favourite TV shows.

OVERALL DEMOGRAPHICS  Most students watch evening TV, usually post watershed. This is usually to escape reality before sleeping. Usually every evening before bed.  Favourite shows are quite intense and complex. Shows escapism as well as identifying with characters and situations. Students are more actively involved in more intense shows.  Favourite genre is comedy, same with the favourite channel. This shows escapism before sleeping and is more passively watched than actively watched. It’s a lot more mindless.
