Physical Education Now and Then Cale Green Foundations of Education

Purpose The purpose of my project is to find out how different physical education was back in the one-room schoolhouse days compared to how it is now. Was physical education more of a time where students were able to get out of the schoolhouse and have fun or did the teacher tell them what to do? Now it is all about the students getting the physical activity they need on a daily basis.

West Kentuck

Physical Education Teacher There were no physical education teachers Now you have to have at least one in each school

With there not being any physical education teachers children would get there activity when they had what we call now “recess”

Football

Now vs. Then

I would like to thank Lenora Lynam and Shelia Malm for allowing us this great oppurtunity to find out more on one-roomed schoolhouses.

Conclusion Realizing that there wasn’t a lot of information on what physical education was like back in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s it was hard to really go deep into this project. Then I had to focus more on what was in the pictures and what the students were doing when they were able to go outside and play during the day. Overall I thought it was a great experience getting to see all of these historical artifacts in the archives and also see West Kentuck. I am thankful for this opportunity to learn a little bit about the background of my profession.
