What do you know about Greek philosophers? Which philosopher do you know the most about? Why do you believe philosophy is worth studying?

You are assigned to create a virtual museum during the next 5 weeks with a partner. Based on the data of the interview try to create your museum by conveying useful statements and ideas that your classmates have addressed. At the end of the project your classmates will vote for the best project. Their opinion is valuable. The theme of your museum is Greek Philosophy!

1. TODAY 1.2 Research a)Decide which philosophers you want to include in your museum, with your partner. b)Start browsing for useful websites that you can find relevant information about them. c)Read the marking criteria before you start your project! d) Read the list of expressions (on the handout) and use them as much as you can when discussing with your partner – This will count as part of your assessment!

2.IN THE NEXT 3 WEEkS 2.1 More research a) Find more online resources about the Philosophers you want to display at your virtual museum. b) Start creating your museum (you can use the template provided or you can follow the instructions to make your own virtual museum from the very beginning – this will require to work in your free time!) c) Continue to use the expressions! (on the handout)

3. IN 4 WEEKS FROM TODAY 3.1 Presentation a) You will present your final project. You will act as tour guides and guide us through it, by introducing the pieces of art which are exhibited at your museum. b) Your presentation will last 5-10 minutes. c) You will vote for the best presentation. Make sure you are familiar with the marking criteria in order to be able to vote. d) There will be prizes for: -The most visually appealing museum -The museum with the best written English -The museum which incorporates the most relevant information -The most interactive museum.

You can use the following websites as a starting point for your project. These are only for help, feel free to browse and find your own. You can use online encyclopedias, Videos, Pictures or any other website you wish.

DO NOT PLAGIARISE – Your work will be submitted through plagiarism software. Plagiarised projects will be penalised. DO NOT QUOTE – You are asked to read, summarise and paraphrase. Do not copy and paste from the internet. Paraphrasing and Summarising has been taught in previous lessons. However, you will be given instructions on how to summarise and paraphrase texts. You are expected to read and follow these instructions.

Read the instructions carefully on how to create your museum through PowerPoint. Hang the pictures on the walls. Each picture is linked to another slide to which there will be a text describing the picture. In the text you should include the following information: 1) The name of the philosopher 2) When they were born/died. 3) Important information about their life and their work. 4) Popular quotes of theirs. 5) Anything else you might think is worth mentioning about them. – Feel free to ask if you are not sure. These slides are not restricted to text and pictures. You can also include audio and video if you wish. PLEASE NOTE: Although the template contains 16 spaces to hang pictures, you do not have to write about 16 philosophers. The minimum number is 8 (which will fill two rooms of your museum and the maximum number is 16 which will fill 4 rooms of your museum. You can fill 2-4 rooms.

Once you have created your virtual museum consider the following: 1)What have you learned by completing this task? 2)What have you learned about working with a partner? 3)Have you learned anything about Greek philosophers that you had not been aware of before? 4)Do you think your English has improved by doing this task?
