The three misconceptions analyzed in this report include:  learning as a cognitive process only, ignoring the experience element,  intelligence as a single process, whereas a learner has multiple intelligences,  learners’ knowledge of education technologies, not just the knowledge of social media and communication. Misconceptions for this analysis are known as the misunderstanding of prior knowledge of the concepts under review (Encarta Dictionary, English).

Yardley, Tuenissen and Dornan (2012) describe experiential learning as knowledge created from real life experiences. The misconception that adult learning is a cognitive process only has been altered to include the experience element.

Practice application (a problem-based assignment): Students are to reconcile a checking account, and they can relate this exercise to their experience for opening and maintaining a bank account.

It has been assumed that students have the ability to use and are adept in the use of technological learning tools. It is now known that learners need to be taught how to use learning technology to enable them to participate in courses that are taught in the online and blended learning environments (Holmes & Gardner, 2006).

Practice application (a learning community): Create an e-learning community for the students where they can obtain information on using technology tools in the classroom. This forum would allow for collaboration between instructors and learners, and multimedia, simulations, and the Internet can be used for this purpose (Holmes & Gardner, 2006).

The idea of the existence of one form of intelligence rather than multiple intelligences is recognized as misconception. Gardner (1993) theorizes that multiple intelligences consist of several independent intellectual abilities possessed by the human being.

Practice application (an interactive finance course curriculum): Principles of the course can be reviewed using multimedia for learners whose style of learning is considered visual and auditory. Role play can also be incorporated into the curriculum to accommodate tactile/kinesthetic learners. Project assignments can be used for those learners whose learning style is considered cognitive.
