 Prince Escalus—Ruler of Verona  Friar Lawrence—Primary religious leader in Verona (practicing apothecary—druggist/ herbalist)  Friar John—secondary religious figure who is beholden to Friar Lawrence—Franciscan Monk  Officers—police officers  Count Paris—kinsman of the Prince—who wishes to marry Juliet  Mercutio—kinsman of the Prince—friend of Romeo, but not a family member.  Apothecary—poor druggist who sells poison to Romeo

 Lord & Lady Montague—very powerful landowners in Verona—politically powerful—still maintaining grudge from many generations ago with the Capulets.  Romeo…  Benvolio—good turn—peace maker in the group—Romeo’s cousin/Lord Montague’s errand boy  Balthasar—Romeo’s man-servant  Abram—servant—low-level mule
