Breakfast SY14 New Breakfast Regulations are in Effect!

3 Breakfast Components 1.Grains 2. Juice/Fruit/Vegetables 3. Fluid Milk

Breakfast GRAIN Component ½ of all grains must be whole grain Minimum of 1 Grain Equivalent per day Minimum of 9 Grain Equivalent per week We will offer 2 Grains/day = 10 per week

(Meat/Meat Alternates) Not a required Component at Breakfast May offer a meat/meat alternate along with a Grain 1 Grain + 1 Meat = 2 “Grain” equivalent

Juice/Fruit/Vegetable Component 100% Fruit Juice Juice/Fruit/Vegetable required to be offered...but NOT required to be selected ½ cup servings

Fluid Milk 8 ounces Fat Free or low fat More than one variety offered Students may decline

Reimbursable Breakfast Must offer all 3 components Must offer 4 food items within the 3 components 3 items = reimbursable meal – Students may take up to 2 items from the same component

Our Breakfast Menu Entrée- will always equal a 2 – 2 Grains or 1 Grain & 1 Meat Variety of Fruit – ½ cup servings – Fresh – Juice Milk – 8 ounce cartons Select an Entrée Select 1 or 2 other items – Milk – Fruit – Juice This combination will equal 3 or 4 food items which will make a reimbursable meal

Breakfast Menu Items Entrees = 2 equivalents – Benefit Bar – Waffles – Frudels – Cini Minis – Mimi Pancakes – All Handheld Sandwiches (biscuits, bagels, burritos) Cereal = 1 equivalent – Must serve with 1 Nutrigrain Bar

Reimbursable Breakfast Examples Bagel Sandwich, Banana, Milk – 4 food items Chicken Biscuit, Fat Free Milk, Chocolate Milk – 4 food items Frudel, Banana, Apple – 4 food items Mini Pancakes, Peach – 3 food items Banana, Milk, Pear – Declined the entrée, still has 3 food items Apple, Banana, Pear (This is Not Reimbursable) – Declined the entrée and chose 3 items from the same component Cereal & Nutrigrain Bar, Milk – 3 food items

1 Breakfast Menu for ES, MS, HS Weekly menu must reach 9 Grains for the week – With a Maximum of 10 If cereal was offered alone daily, we would only reach 5 Grains per week Cereal must come with a Nutrigrain Bar

In Summary 3 items at a minimum = reimbursable meal 4 items at a maximum = reimbursable meal Students: – Choose 1 Breakfast Entrée – Choose 1 or 2 Sides This is how we currently operate
