Info on the flag Adopted in 1870,was first used in 1796 by Italians who supported Napoleon Bonaparte of France in a war against Austria.

Education in Rome All Italian children go to school between ages of six and fourteen. There is now a plan to change that. Only males are taught. But in the early days of Rome children were taught by there parents or, if possible, an educated slave – whether a slave of his own or that of someone who permitted the children of friends and neighbours to come to his house at fixed hours and be taught elementary subjects with his own children.

Traditional & modern dress Some of the world’s most famous fashion designers are Italian such as Prada, Giorgio Armani, Valentino and Miu Miu.

Immigration Many Italians migrated to other countries after World War 2, either by plane or ship to begin a safe and better life. Most went to USA, Canada, Argentina and Australia. There are over 220,000 Italians in Australia and after English, Italian is the second most common language in Australia- about 317,000 people speak Italian. Family fact- My brother and my Mum go to Italian school and we have lots of Italian relatives!!!
