English 9A Bellwork Week One

Tuesday In my head I’m thinking how long till lunchtime, how long till I can take the red sweater and throw it over the schoolyard fence, or leave it hanging on a parking meter, or bunch it up into a little ball and toss it in the alley. Except when math period ends Mrs. Price says loud and in front of everybody, “Now, Rachel, that’s enough,” because she sees I’ve shoved the red sweater to the tippy- tip corner of my desk and it’s hanging all over the edge like a waterfall, but I don’t care.

Today’s Agenda View Ms. Dodge’s WebsiteWebsite Sign up for Remind 101 notifications View and discuss English 9 Grading Policy, NFHS Cell Phone Policy, and Dress Code Receive Practice Passes Learn of the Writer’s Notebook (due in-hand and setup on Thursday) Get a Room 216 Tour Take Student Learner Survey Fill out Student Info Sheet

Today’s Targets Students will be able to recall Ms. Dodge’s classroom policies.

Today’s Scale 4: Teach today’s target(s) to someone else. 3: Feel comfortable with today’s target(s), but not ready to teach someone else just yet. 2: Still have (a) question(s) about today’s target(s), and it/those is/are… 1: Feel lost and would like to meet on…

Wednesday But the worst part is right before the bell rings for lunch. That stupid Phyllis Lopez, who is even dumber than Sylvia Saldivar, says she remembers the red sweater is hers! I take it off right away and give it to her, only Mrs. Price pretends like everything’s okay.

Today’s Agenda Read Sandra Cisneros’ “Eleven” twice View and discuss “Moving from Expression to Reflection” PowerPoint Meet in Writing Groups to setup group “norms” For homework, prepare your Writer’s Notebook for use tomorrow and dig up a photo from the past to bring in

Today’s Targets Students will be able to differentiate between “Expressive” and “Reflective” writing.

Today’s Agenda Meet in Writing Groups to discuss and list norms for your groups Show and describe your #tbt photo Spend minutes in Sacred Writing Time, writing about the #tbt photo in the WNB Meet in Writing Groups again to share the narrative aloud and receive feedback on how to move from expression to reflection For homework, write another draft of the narrative that displays the reflective elements that were discussed yesterday

Today’s Targets Students will be able to apply concepts concerning expressive and reflective writing into their own personal narratives.
