AGAINST: 1.The “mystery of lawlessness” was already at work (v. 7) in Paul’s day. This clearly eliminates any person of the modern era or beyond. 2.How can we know such a figure would be “just about to come” when we cannot know “the times and the seasons” of His coming or things leading up to it (cf. 1 Thess. 5:1-2; Matt. 24:36). 3.This evil was to begin in the apostles’ days and to continue in the world until the second coming of Christ.
