PROPHETS OF ISLAM Other Possible Prophets Prophet Muhammad: The Final Prophet and Messenger

Prophets Mentioned in Hadeeth Yousha’ (Joshua): He accompanied Moosa عليه السلام on the sea journey in search of Al-Khidr. He was made prophet after the death of Moosa and continued his mission. Under his leadership, the Bani Israel freed Palestine from the aggressors. Shayth (Seth): One of the sons of Adam عليه السلام Danyal (Daniel), Shaia (Isaiah) and Armya (Jeremiah)

Personalities Mentioned in Qur’an The following personalities could have been prophets but it is not known with certainty. Imran: The father of Maryam whose name is given to a Surah in the Qur’an. Luqman: The wise man who also has a Surah to his name. Al-Khidr:The knowledgeable person in the time of prophet Moosa عليه السلام. Thul Qarnayn: One of the kings to have ruled over the entire world. He built the wall to keep Yajooj & Majooj away from the people.

Prophet Muhammad صلّى الله عليه وسلّم The earlier Messengers were each given teachings limited to their respective nations or for a certain time. These nations were isolated from each other. To make all the people one nation to live in peace and harmony, Allah sent Prophet Muhammad صلّى الله عليه وسلّم. Allah entrusted him to deliver his teachings to the whole world and for eternity. This teaching is Islam.

Prophet Muhammad صلّى الله عليه وسلّم Prophet Muhammad صلّى الله عليه وسلّم confirmed the basic teachings of Islam that other Prophets taught, with additional teachings and guidance for the good of mankind. Prophet Muhammad is the final Prophet and Messenger. He brought the final message from Allah, the Qur’an. مَّا كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَبَا أَحَدٍ مِّن رِّجَالِكُمْ وَلَٰكِن رَّسُولَ اللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ النَّبِيِّينَ ۗ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمًا ﴿٤٠﴾ الاحزاب “Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but He is the Messenger of Allah and the Last of the prophets, and Allah is knowledgeable of all things.”[33:40]

Prophet Muhammad صلّى الله عليه وسلّم The chapter of Prophethood is sealed. Any claim of Prophethood or of any divine message after the Qur’an is absolutely false.

Assignment 1. Are we required to believe only in those messengers which are mentioned in the Qur’an? 2. How do we know that there are more messengers than are mentioned in the Qur’an? Base your answer on a Qur’anic ayah. 3. Why did Allah send a common Prophet in the form of Muhammad صلّى الله عليه وسلّم for the entire humanity? 4. Did Muhammad صلّى الله عليه وسلّم bring with him a new religion? 5. Mention two prophets who are mentioned only in the Hadeeth. 6. Mention two people who are mentioned in the Qur’an but their being prophets is not surely known.
