 A method of distributing multimedia files (such as audio programs and music videos) over the Internet, using either RSS or Atom syndication format for playback on mobile devices or personal computers. Pod (Portable On Demand) + Broadcast = Podcast

 RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication” or “Rich Site Summary”  Technology that is being used by millions of Web users around the world to keep track of their favorite websites.  Alternative to bookmarking websites.

1.Find a website you would like to subscribe to for updates. 2.Use a RSS Feed Reader (Google Reader*, My Yahoo, Newsgator, Bloglines). 3.The Reader works similar to …as you subscribe to feeds you will see the unread entries from sites you are tracking show up in bold. 4.Where to look for RSS Feed? 1) On the webpage itself 2) Web browser/address bar of web browser 5.Access RSS Feeds to keep up-to-date with news, sports, entertainment, etc.

 Task 2: Find two publicly recognized websites that have RSS Feeds.  Answer the following questions:  What is the website? Provide a brief description.  Where did you find the RSS Feed Icon?  What happened when you clicked on the RSS Feed Icon?  What information do you hope to receive from this RSS Feed?

 Task 3: Use one of the following Podcasting websites to find a school appropriate podcast of your choice (Podfeed, Podcast.com, etc.)  Listen to 2 podcasts (15-30 minutes for each)  1 social & 1 educational  Jot down notes about some of the items you noticed when listening to the podcast (i.e. sound quality, topics, length, pace, sequence etc.). Critique the podcast!
