Swampscott High School Global Competency Program

The Swampscott High Global Competency Program seeks to challenge students to see beyond the horizon of Swampscott and recognize the importance of comprehensive and interdisciplinary studies. Our goal is to guide students in a broad, multi-cultural education to make them thoughtful contributors in the world.

The core component of the program is international awareness. Students will be geographically, politically, historically and culturally aware. Swampscott High School has added several new electives that support and promote the Global Competency Program.

REQUIREMENTS: Students must complete a sequence of a spoken language other than English. Students will perform a prescribed amount of community service with a global theme. Students will participate in international travel and/or locally global events, or host an international student. Students will take a minimum of 10 credits of globally focused electives in several academic areas.

Students may begin to work towards their Global Competency certificate in their freshmen year. Student will create a Global Project showcasing the sum of their experiences from their global education. They will also formally present their project to the school and community.
