{ Religion in China By Aidan Celjaj

{ Introduction Do you practice religion? Did you know that there are so many religions in China? The main religions of china are Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, and Chinese folklore. Most of the population of china is agnostic or atheist, which means they do not practice any specific kind of religion. Religions of china are family oriented and do not demand any exulsive adherence to any specific religion. So, the people of china may practice more than one religion at the same time. In my opinion, I think China has the most religions practiced.

Buddhism   The first signs of Buddhismwere discovered around the60s CE. In china, there areabout 300 million people whopractice Buddhism or 18% to20% of the total population ofthe total population of china. In Mainland China, almost allHan Chinese practiceBuddhism. Buddhism teachesits followers to reduce theirsuffering by understandingthem selves and requiresthinking and non-violentliving.  

Taoism originated in china in the 6 th century BCE. Taoism is a philosophy-religion in which believers follow a simple and balanced life in harmony with nature. Taoists try to avoid conflict and solve problems peacefully. Taoism and folk religions account for 20% to 30% of the population of china (specifically 300 to 400 million people in china). Chinese folk religion (Shenism) is a religion used to describe a collection of religious traditions, which are major beliefs among Han Chinese history, until today. Shenism consists of Chinese mythology and includes the worship of the shens (Deities). Some of the deities include nature, clan, city, and national. Shenism also includes worship of cultural demigods, heroes, dragons, and ancestors. Shenism is supported by the Government of People’s Republic of china. Taoism and Chinese Folklore

Confuciusisism Confuciuciusism was first created during the 5 th century BCE and was introduced by the teachings of Confucius. Confucianism thought stresses ethical, social, and mortal values. Confucianism is described more of a philosophy instead of a religion. Only a small number of the population of china practice Confucianism today. Cofuciusism was First practiced by the Han Chinese population.

Conclusion  60-70% of the population of china is agnostic or atheist. Some Abrahamic religions include Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Manichaeism, Hinduism, and Zoroastrianism. There is still a big debate on what to call religion and what to call religious.
