A STUDY FROM THE BOOK OF HEBREWS PARTAKERS OF THE THINGS OF GOD

PARTAKE metechos “to partake of, share in” meta (“with”), echo (“to have”)

1. PARTAKE OF THE HEAVENLY CALLING Hebrews 3:1 We are called by the gospel (2 Thess. 2:14) We are to walk worthy of this calling (Eph. 4:1) We are called “upward” to God’s eternal glory (Phil. 3:14; 1 Pet. 5:10)

2. PARTAKE OF CHRIST Hebrews 3:14 Share in the blessings of being in Christ (v. 11; Eph. 1:3-14) Participating in His work (Rom. 8:17; Rev. 1:6)

3. PARTAKE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT Hebrews 6:4 We are sealed by the Spirit (Eph. 1:13) The Spirit is the guarantee of our inheritance (Eph. 1:14) We are led by the Spirit (Rom. 8:14) The Spirit helps with our prayers (Rom. 8:26-27) We have the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38)

4. PARTAKE OF THE LORD’S CHASTENING Hebrews 12:7-8 If we are a child of God, we will be chastened by the Lord (Deut. 8:5) Christians are not exempt from the sufferings of life. Such would indicate we are not God’s children.

HEBREWS 2:14 “Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil.” We can partake of the things of God because Christ first partook of the things of man.
