Standard of living (they have a large # of young childern) Madagascar is a poor nation which has a large population of young children Madagascar, an island nation off the east coast of Africa, is one of the poorest places in the world. A sixth of Madagascar’s population comprises children under the age of five. Every year, tens of thousands of these young children die, mainly from easily preventable causes: that’s eight children who die every hour because they don’t receive basic health care such as a simple vaccination.
