The segregation When he was 6 years old he underwent his first experience of racial segregation. His friend said « We haven’t the autorisation to play with you because you are black » The boycott of the bus of Montgomery: On 01 December 1955 Rosa Parks was arrested because she hadn’t given her place to a white man on a bus. This led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The aim of the boycott was: -to let black and white men any place they wanted on a bus. -to make black and white men equal on a bus. -to allow black men to drive a bus. -to get drivers to be courtly with everybody on the bus. Rosa Parks

The segregation Martin Luther King was helped by John F. Kennedy in the fight against the segregation of black people in the USA. But a lot of rights were implemented when Lyndon B Johnson became president. On 28 August 1963 MLK pronounced a very famous speech “ I have a dream”. This speech was pronounced when there was a march for freedom and employment.

The segregation - In 1963, MLK organized a demonstration in Birmingham. It was the city with the biggest racial segregation. MLK was arrested on 13 April but he was supported by John F Kennedy and he was freed one week after. On 02 May he organized a demonstration with children and students. But the policemen responded with violence and this demonstration was criticized a lot. - In Washington he organized a very big march with people. It was the biggest demonstration ever held in the capital of the USA.

The peace In 1964, MLK became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his non-violent fight against racial segregation and for peace. In 1965, MLK was against the war in Vietnam. He denounced the attitude of the Americans and said “ the USA is the biggest supplier of violence in the world”.

The poverty The fight against poverty was the second phase in the Civil Rights Movement. This fight was not to defend the afro- americans. MLK said « This fight is aimed at all poor men. We must include the American Indians, the Portoricans, the Mexican and even the Whites.

The conclusion MLK was murdered in March 1968 in Memphis. In 1997, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal in This is the grave of Martin Luther King and it’s written « free at last »
