Presentation transcript:

Informational interview Rachel Ware 6 December 2o13

Situation My mom’s friend, Jim Crowley, is a private investigator. I have always been fascinated by crime and found that I am very interested in criminal psychology.

Action Research: I began to find myself interested with all of Jim’s cases and found myself fascinated by the process of catching criminals through social networking.

Action pt. 2 Identify: Private investigators are hired by attorneys which makes contacting them near impossible. However, being that I have connections, he agreed to an interview while eating dinner at my house.

Timeline 1986 Joins military 1990 Runs parking with the police department 1991 Street Cop 1995 Becomes detective 2008 Begins private investigating

Question 1 How did you get into investigating?

“Went to the military in ’86 and those jobs were related to law enforcement” During military time, his parents moved to Aspen. It was then that Jim began involving himself in the Aspen Police Department. After, he became a detective and pursued that for eighteen years.

Question 2 What is your favorite part of your job?

“Teaching law enforcement to do a better job.”

Question 3 What is your least favorite part of being a private investigator?

“Working on cases with child victims.”

Question 4 How can you work on the defense’s side after having worked on the prosecution’s side?

“Under our system of law, the defense deserves to be vigorous and adding experienced investigators to the defense would level the playing field.”

Results Some of the things that come in handy when being a private investigator:

Pursuing Private Investigating This career is not for me because I don’t know how I would handle the pressure when it came to child cases. From what I have seen, he does a lot of them. It takes a certain kind of person to be able to maintain strength and drive when working difficult cases and that is not for me. It is strongly recommended that you have a minimum of 15 years working in law enforcement to become a private investigator but also to have a working knowledge of social media sites.
