Alcorcon is a city in the metropolitan area of Madrid. It is located 13 km to the south-west of Madrid. It has got 33,73 km² and about inhabitants.

Its origins are not totally clear. One of the theories is that Alcorcon was founded by Muslim craftsmen, that called the city Al-Qadir that means hill or vantage point. But, the most probably thing is that, the village of Alcorcon was founded between the XI and XII centuries. At the beginning of the XX century the Castles of the Marques of Valderas were built.

Our school was founded in 1986 in Alcorcon. In the course 2005/2006 a bilingual section was created and since this creation, more than half of the students study in it. The high school has always participated in international social programs and organizes exchanges with French, Dutch, Belgian and Danish students to foment the cultural knowledge of the pupils.

The high school takes part in two Europe Comenius programmers called “Keep on talking” and "Methodologies and strategies for the development of the European conscientious in schools". It also participates in a project called Europe as a Learning Environment in Schools) which is also a Comenius program Also the school participates in global classroom, a project that help to prepare the students in underserved communities.

Spanish Emigration

The Spanish emigration is a historic phenomenon that started during the Modern Age. During all the Modern Age the main migratory places were the colonies in America. People emigrated trying to find a job. With the American independence, emigration was hindered by the expulsion of the Spanish from America, focusing a great part of the XIX century in Cuba, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile and other American countries.

The civil war from 1936 to 1939 and the post-war period led to the republican exile. Large amounts of people migrated throughout Europe and Ibero- America In 1960 there was a big economical crisis in Spain, so Spanish people were to France, German and Switzerland to work.

Spanish writers exiled during the civil war Luis Cernuda Rafael Alberti

Immigration in Spain

The population of Spain has been double because of the immigration. The majority of the foreigners in Spain are Moroccan, Ecuadorian, Romanians, Colombian. Chinese also play an important role in the immigration of Spain, and people from South East Asia such us Filipinos created a community in Spain. Immigrants form some sub- Saharan African countries have also settled in Spain as workers. Also there some immigrants from the east of Europe.
