CLASSROOM ECONOMY ROOM 205

WHAT WILL WE DO? We will:  Earn money from working our classroom jobs;  Earn bonus money for doing well;  Lose money for making poor choices;  Pay rent for desks;  Spend our money on auction items;  Have the chance to own a condo;  Eventually have the chance to buy another student’s desk.

BANKING ON GOOD BEHAVIOR

Teacher discretion – students may be debited or credited for items not listed above at the teacher’s discretion. Debits and Bonuses will be paid at the start of the next week. Paychecks are given out the last Friday of the month. Paychecks must be deposited in the bank. Lost paychecks will not be replaced unless you pay a lost check fee of $ Lost checks will be replaced for $50 fee. Keep your checks safe. The classroom auction will be held each month after rent is paid. If you are absent during the auction, you will have to wait until the following month to make a purchase. You may save your money to purchase more expensive items or to own your “condo” desk, at a cost of 3x your rent. You are not required to spend your earnings each pay period. There will be no debits or bonuses credited during specialties. HOW DOES IT WORK?

WHY DOES IT WORK? Students need a certain level of responsibility to be able to move on to middle school. This economy teaches them to have and keep a job, holds them accountable for their actions, and gives them an independence that they may otherwise not have in school. They must add and subtract their banking ledgers; they must save money in order to pay rent and buy items; they must hold themselves accountable for their actions within their small community.
