What is Comic Sans? Comic Sans is an informal font that looks like comic book lettering. It conveys a casual meaning. The font is not meant for formal documents. The font was named Comic Sans because it was inspired by comic book writing. Sans is short for sans-serif, which is a font without strokes at the end of letters. Times New Roman is a font with strokes or serifs Comic Sans is a font without serifs.

The Creation of Comic Sans  Comic Sans was accidentally created by Vincent Connare in 1994 at Microsoft Corp.  While working on a project, Connare designed his new font Comic Sans by using comic books as an inspiration.  A product manager liked it and decided to use it as a standard font in Microsoft Windows.  The font’s popularity grew as more people bought computers.

The Movement to Ban Comic Sans In 1999, a woman named Holly Sliger was irritated when her boss told her to use Comic Sans for a museum guide. She disliked the font with a passion. She and her husband Dave Combs started a movement to ban Comic Sans. They used stickers of Connare’s face to raise awareness of the overuse of Comic Sans.
