A ‘strategic’ definition of HRM “HRM is a distinctive approach to employment management which seeks to achieve competitive advantage through the strategic deployment (proper distribution) of a highly committed and capable workforce, using an integrated array (orderly arrangement) of cultural, structural and personnel techniques” (Storey 2001) 11

The Importance of Human Resource Management (HRM) As a necessary part of the organizing function of management – Selecting, training, and evaluating the work force As an important strategic tool – HRM helps establish an organization’s sustainable competitive advantage.
