Task You have the task of researching the British education system in a given period of history. Your task today is to do the research. Next lesson, we will use your research to build a whole class timeline.

Task Number 1’s – Education before 1944, a historical view Number 2’s– –(The Tripartite System) Number 3’s – (Comprehensivisation) Number 4’s – (Twenty years of Tory educational policy) Number 5’s – 1997 – 2007 (New Labour) Number 6’s – 2007 – now (Current government) Use books and the internet. Include any definitions of key terms that you think are important. Try to find some interesting images. You must print off any pictures or information you want to use in advance (or to me to print).

To be included in each section. Who was the government and Prime Minister at the time? What changes happened to the education system during this period? What was introduced, taken away? What where the main aims of the government regarding education (raising achievement, increasing choice, raising standards, bridging gaps between rich and poor)? What was particularly good/bad? What worked/didn’t work and why? Include key dates of education acts and policies
