Cottage plantation Located in St. Francsville, Louisiana The land was secured by John Allen and Patrick Holland with a land grant from the Spanish in 1795 The main house has a series of buildings joined togther.
Cottage plantation Made up of two buildings that form an “L” shape ▫The original house (the foot of the “L”) is 42ft in length Extended in the 1800’s to 85ft in length The extension was made so it copied the original architecture of the building ▫The last section was the “great wing” (the side of the “L”) was 65ft long
Cottage Plantation This plantation had many other parts with it. ▫School house- was 14ft. by 26ft; width-8ft. As a 6ft. Gallery on the north side, two rooms one school room, one bedroom for the tutor ▫Milk house- 12ft 3in., square. where the dairy products were made (milk, butter, cream, ect.) ▫Kitchen-30 ft. 3 in x 18 ft. 6 in. two rooms one kitchen and one laundry ▫Greenhouses- (2) 12 ft. 8 in. wide and 20 ft. in length. Made of brick ▫Cistern Sheds-(2) 10 ft square. Held up by post in the corners ▫Carriage Barn- 20 ft. 4 in. wide, 30 ft. long. Overhanging shed on the east side ▫Horse Barn-2 ft. 6 in. wide, 32 ft. 6 in. long. Overhanging sheds on east and west sides ▫Slave Cabins-(3), 32 ft. two rooms, fireplace in each
Continued ▫Also had a cemetery-40 ft. x 55 ft. walled ▫Smoke House-15 ft. 3 in. wide by 15 ft. ▫Utility House-20 ft. 3 inches square. Had 4 rooms, tack room, a room where they stored dishes, a room where they stored lumber, and a room for traveling equiptment
