The Windows 7 Desktop Desktop Area Taskbar Start Menu System Tray The Windows 7 Desktop still retains the look of past versions of the program. However looks can be deceiving. Many improvements lie beneath the surface To start with Windows 7 improves in speed. You will also be able to open more documents and programs simultaneously. And even more. Next slide please.

Improved Taskbar The Taskbar has been visibly improved many times. You can now drag an icon to the Taskbar and pin it there for launching your frequently used programs. You can even drag Web pages to the Taskbar. You can then drag and rearrange the Taskbar icons. This should help to clean up the desktop a little.

Thumbnail Preview Thumbnail preview lets you see a reduced view of the documents you have open in a given program by floating your cursor over it. To see it at normal size float your cursor over the thumbnail itself. Real cool!

Quicker Searching Click on the start button and type the search criteria. The search result above for the word “windows” was returned in 2.2 seconds.

Jump Lists The Jump List is produced by right clicking on the Outlook icon on the taskbar. It allows you to jump to any of several tasks that Outlook can perform. Other jump lists for other programs have recently opened documents pinned to them for easy access.

Aero Glass Pressing the Windows key lets you flip through open files. The flipping is accomplished by tapping the Tab key while holding the Windows key. To switch to the Window you want let go of the Windows key when you get it in position.

Aero Peek This is the screen Aero Peek same screen Slick new feature in the Aero class is Windows Aero Peek. Say you just want to take a quick look at your desktop. Float your cursor over the button in the lower right corner. Clicking on the button minimizes everything. Clicking again restores all windows.

Aero Shake Before Aero Shake After Aero Shake If you have too many windows open you can minimize them all by grabbing the window you want left open by the Title Bar and shaking it. That will minimize the other windows.

W INDOWS S NAP If you want to have two windows side by side you can get each to take up half the screen with Windows Snap. Take the first window and push it into the corner You will see the transparent windows appear. Let go and the window snaps to half the screen

Problem Steps Recorder The new problem steps recorder allows you to record a process you are having a problem with and send it to the Helpdesk or to Microsoft for analysis. To run the PSR type PSR in the search box after clicking the start button. Then click the program, click start recording, when finished stop recording and Save the file. When sending it attach it as you would any other file.
