Jesus’ Parable of The Sower Lesson 5 The Sower, The Seed And The Good, Fruitful Soil

An Introduction To Jesus’ Parables A parable is an earthly story designed to teach a spiritual lesson through a comparison Jesus taught parables to separate hardened hearts from humble and honest hearts

Introduction In His parable of the sower, Jesus reveals the power of the Word of God to change human hearts But, the Word of God can be prevented from changing our hearts if we choose to sinfully react toward it We study this parable so we may overcome rebellion to His Word by humbly receiving and obeying it so we may be saved

The Sower, The Seed And The Good, Fruitful Soil Jesus speaks the parable of the sower The sower and the seed explained The good, fruitful soil explained

Jesus Speaks The Parable Of The Sower Luk 8:5 "The sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell beside the road, and it was trampled under foot and the birds of the air ate it up. Mat 13:5 "Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of soil.

Jesus Speaks The Parable Of The Sower Mat 13:6 "But when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. Mar 4:7 "Other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and it yielded no crop.

Jesus Speaks The Parable Of The Sower Mar 4:8 "Other seeds fell into the good soil, and as they grew up and increased, they yielded a crop and produced thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold." Mar 4:9 And He was saying, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

The Sower And The Seed Explained The sower is not specifically identified in this parable Luk 8:11 "Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God. Mat 13:19 "When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it,…

The Good, Fruitful Soil Explained Mar 4:8 "Other seeds fell into the good soil, and as they grew up and increased, they yielded a crop and produced thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold."

The Good, Fruitful Soil Explained The good soil is the deep, fertile soil in which seeds fall, producing strong plants that are able to gain moisture and nutrients The plants produced from these seeds bear fruit at differing levels

The Good, Fruitful Soil Explained Mat 13:23 "And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty." Luk 8:15 "But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance.

The Good, Fruitful Soil Explained This soil represents the honest and good (noble) heart who hears the Word and Understands it Holds it fast Bears fruit by applying it Continues applying it with perseverance, endurance These are the opposite of the other types of hearts, soils

Jesus’ Disciples – Examples of An Honest and Good Heart Mat 13:16 "But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. Mat 13:17 "For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.

Cornelius – Example of An Honest and Good Heart Act 10:33 "So I sent for you immediately, and you have been kind enough to come. Now then, we are all here present before God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord." Act 10:34 Opening his mouth, Peter said: "I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality,

Cornelius – Example of An Honest and Good Heart Act 10:35 but in every nation the man who fears Him and does what is right is welcome to Him. Act 10:48 And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay on for a few days.

The Bereans – Examples of Honest and Good Hearts Act 17:10 The brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. Act 17:11 Now these were more noble- minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.

The Bereans – Examples of Honest and Good Hearts Act 17:12 Therefore many of them believed, along with a number of prominent Greek women and men.

Understanding The Word In Order To Bear Fruit Col 1:5 because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel Col 1:6 which has come to you, just as in all the world also it is constantly bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard of it and understood the grace of God in truth;

Holding Fast To The Word – Continually Obeying It 1Co 15:1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 1Co 15:2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.

Holding Fast To The Word – Continually Obeying It 1Co 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.

Bearing Fruit Necessary To Being A Faithful Disciple Joh 15:4 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. Joh 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

Bearing Fruit Necessary To Being A Faithful Disciple Joh 15:6 "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. Joh 15:7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. Joh 15:8 "My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.

Bearing Fruit Through Godly Character Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, Gal 5:23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Bearing Fruit Through Praising and Worshipping God Heb 13:15 Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.

Bearing Fruit By Reaching The Lost With The Gospel Rom 1:13 I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that often I have planned to come to you (and have been prevented so far) so that I may obtain some fruit among you also, even as among the rest of the Gentiles. Rom 1:14 I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.

Bearing Fruit By Reaching The Lost With The Gospel Rom 1:15 So, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

Bearing Fruit By Doing Good Works Col 1:9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, Col 1:10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Bearing Fruit By Doing Good Works Col 1:11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously Col 1:12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.

Bearing Fruit According To Our Ability Mat 25:14 "For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. Mat 25:15 "To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey.

Bearing Fruit According To Our Ability 1Pe 4:10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Bearing Fruit According To Our Ability 1Pe 4:11 Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Bearing Fruit With Perseverance Jas 1:2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, Jas 1:3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Jas 1:4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
