A little about me... ASU graduate in Elementary Education ASU Master's in Educational Technology This is my 10th year as a certified teacher I taught 5th and 6th grades This is my 1st year teaching 4th grade I was born in New Mexico but grew up in Michigan I have been in Arizona since 1987 My children graduated from Chandler Schools

What we learn in 4th Grade....Math Operations and Algebraic Thinking (OA) Use the four operations with whole numbers to solve problems. Gain familiarity with factors and multiples. Generate and analyze patterns.

What we learn in 4th Grade....Math Number and Operations in Base Ten (NBT) Generalize place value understanding for multi-digit whole numbers. Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic.

What we learn in 4th Grade....Math Number and Operations—Fractions (NF) Extend understanding of fraction equivalence and ordering. Build fractions from unit fractions by applying and extending previous understandings of operations on whole numbers. Understand decimal notation for fractions, and compare decimal fractions.

What we learn in 4th Grade....Math Measurement and Data (MD) Solve problems involving measurement and conversion of measurements from a larger unit to a smaller unit. Represent and interpret data. Geometric measurement: understand concepts of angle and measure angles.

What we learn in 4th Grade....Math Geometry (G) Draw and identify lines and angles, and classify shapes by properties of their lines and angles.

What we learn in 4th Grade....Language Arts The focus of Key Ideas and Details is providing textual evidence and making inferences, identifying theme and literary elements, and summarizing text.

What we learn in 4th Grade....Language Arts Texts become personally relevant and useful when readers use texts to make meaning explicitly and inferentially.

What we learn in 4th Grade....Language Arts Making inferences during reading helps readers fill in information the author has left unsaid.

What we learn in 4th Grade....Language Arts Comprehension of the author’s ideas involves making connections, comparisons, and inferences between texts and the larger world.

What we learn in 4th Grade....Language Arts Making meaning and determining theme gives readers a more complete picture of the text, and enables them to summarize and/or describe textual elements.

What we learn in 4th Grade....Science Scientific Method Life Science (Organisms, bacteria, cells, adaptation, natural resources, ecosystems) Physical Science (Energy and magnetism) Earth Science (Water cycle and weather)

What we learn in 4th Grade....Study Skills Homework is assigned daily and due the next day Spelling is a 4 point contract – student choice Math – 4 out of 6 questions each night Dojo points awarded daily, but no points taken away if all work is turned in by Friday morning Exception!
