WMTC classification Limits values ( g/km) COHC+ NOx Class 1 & Sub class Sub Class Sub Class 3.1 & BS III Emission Limits ( WMTC) 2 Introduction Notified by government vide GSR 515(E) June 2012 Two wheelers ( Gasoline) COHC+ NOx Limit values ( g/km)1.00 Effective Limit values considering DF of 1.2 (g/km) 0.83 BS III Emission Limits ( IDC) Notified by government vide GSR 84(E) Feb 2009 DF is Built in alternate proposal for CO & HC+NOx. DF = 1.2 for both CO, HC+NOx. Norms came into force from April 2010 Alternate test procedure and its corresponding limits.

BS IV – Critical events Sep 2011 – Dec 2012 : SIAM data study & making consensus on BS IV. Dec 2012 : Proposal submitted to Government. April 2013 : SIAM explained industry idea to Government MoRTH & SCOE. WMTC classification Max speed (km/ hr.)Test Cycles Weighting factors for final emission results CO (g/km) If the evaporative emission complies with 2g/test If the evaporative emission complies with 6g/test Remarks HC+NO x (g/km) a.DF is built into proposed draft notification.. b.Implementation from 1 st April Class 1 & Sub Class 2.1 <100 < 115 Part 1 RS Cold + Part 1 RS hot 50 % + 50 % Sub Class 2.2 < 130 Part 1 Cold + Part 2 hot 30 % + 70 % Sub Class 3.1 & 3.2 < 140 Part 1 cold + Part 2 hot + Part 3 RS hot 25 % + 50 % + 25 % Tail Pipe emissions 2. Evaporative emissions : HC ≤ 2 g/test (option ≤ 6 g/test with 0.2 g/km reduction in tail pipe emission HC + NOx) 3. Crankcase emissions : Shall not permit crankcase gases into the atmosphere BS IV draft notification GSR 186(E) – Mar Chronological events

Auto fuel policy ( AFP) committee AFP committee has felt positive about bringing a limit values for evaporative emissions & control of crankcase gas emissions in BS IV. However the tail pipe emission limits, are some what on lenient side.. Given the importance of two wheelers play in improving and providing mobility in India for large section of society, AFP committee felt the need for reducing emissions and also improving Fuel economy. Also AFP has looked into the limit values considering the overall situation (eco system) of fuel availability, complexity of changes and associated costs and long term perspective of the industry. Use of lean mixtures, while improving fuel economy and CO emissions, tend to increase NOx emissions. In order to control the likely NOx emission from two wheelers, an additional limit for NOx is being proposed with an overall limit on HC + Nox and communicated to “SCOE”, the nodal agency responsible for issue of notifications. 4

WMTC classification Max spee d (km/ hr.)Test Cycles Weighting factors for final emission results CO (g/km) NOx cap added If the evaporative emission complies with 2g/test If the evaporative emission complies with 6g/test Changes made by AFP to draft notification.
