How Special Chinese Language Is Their language is a phenomenon in the modern world of ancient scripts Their symbols are always written with special utensils To us in the United States, these symbols are art

China’s Language Evolves China evolved from earlier, non linguistic symbolic systems Their language has become more complex ever since it had started in ancient times China’s symbols and language are still very common today

Earlier Times Of The Language When the symbols were being developed, ideograms were created Ideogram: a written symbol that represents an idea or object directly rather than a particular word or speech sound, such as a Chinese character They used their symbols in war so nobody else could understand them At first the symbols weren't very complex

Types, Origin, Details Their language is monosyllabic - having only one syllable, as the word no. Their Unicode alias is “Han In their orthography their characters are largely morphosyllabic each corresponding to a spoken syllable with a distinct meaning The Chinese type of language is logographic

Logographic: of, pertaining to, or using logograms Unicode: computing a character set for all languages Orthography : the study of established correct spelling monosyllabic - having only one syllable, as the word no.

When learning it Their language is traditional and for them, learning it is like learning how to walk They have a special form of sign language and it can be very complicated when learning it They’ve shown that functional literacy requires a knowledge of between 3 and 4 thousand characters!

(start at 50 seconds)

Times for the Chinese The Chinese have used their language since 1500 B.C. Later on in time they started using their symbols in books When it began to now the language has sometimes been called “Hanzi”

meanings of symbols The Chinese symbol for create is of eight individuals on a floating vessel were destroyed This means rain: This means sun:

Amazing Facts! Instead of using a few letters they’ve developed thousands of characters! The Chinese have updated their language many times! Their language took many long years to develop and become an official language
