Mr. Tucket John Green
Historical Time Period EvidenceMy thinking “It was June 13, 1848.” page 2 paragraph 3 For the first one when I saw the time period that was good to see in the beginning.
Historical Time Period Evidence My thinking “Francis learned that the brave who had threatened to kill him and had purchased the rifle for two good horses from the man who had to leave the party was named Braid.” page 17 paragraph 1. When it says that they need to trade weapons for horses back then they had to trade to get what they want. In the 1800s they had to trade goods to get want they want.
Research for Previous Slide ResearchCitation v/exhibits/Mississippi/2tr ade.html v/exhibits/Mississippi/2tr ade.html “Most native traders had little use for money and were confused by the variety of European currencies still circulating in America. Instead, they exchanged their pelts for rifles, kettles, glass beads, cloth, blankets, and liquor.”
Historical Time Period Evidence My thinking “The Indian dogs were snapping at the hooves of his horses.” page 23 paragraph 1. Back then dogs were not nice. They were mostly hunting dogs and protectors.
Research “The Native Americans used their dogs for protection, food, hunting, and for pulling travois' packed with possessions.” /pages/jaaces/
Historical time period Evidence My thinking “Fair means that I'm going together wood and cook jerky.” page 45 paragraph 6. Back then they had to go outside to get food to eat so that tells what time period its in.
Research researchcitation “Scientific and technological innovations transformed the nature of food production, driven not only by profit motive but also by the need to feed the growing population. The invention of the steam engine speeded up the process of food transportation, allowing fresh meat, fish and dairy produce to be sent all over the country on shiny new railways.” langlit/booksforcooks/18 00s/1800sfood.html
Historical Time Period EvidenceMy thinking “He had seen only one type of Indian so far.” page 55 paragraph 2. When it said Indians that tells a lot about the time period. In the 1800s Indians were people that were people that were natural and wants to protect there land for other people that were bad.
research citation “By 1838, General Winfield Scott began the removal of the remaining Cherokee Indians from the South to what is now Oklahoma. Forced to travel thousands of miles during the bitter winter, thousands of Cherokees died during the journey in what has been called the Trail of Tears.” race.org/history/society/i ndian_wars_westward_e xp.html
Historical Time Period Evidence My thinking “With a loud scream the Indian boy grinning spun lightly on his left leg and placed the instep of his right foot dead in the center of Francis still undigested buffalo hard.” page 64 paragraph 6. In the text when the character had to shoot a buffalo and eat it that’s what they had to to eat. In the 1800s they had a law that 13 year olds could shoot a gun.
research citation “During the early 1800s, cooking dominated the time and energy of the average housewife. There were no big grocery stores where families could go to purchase food, and eating out was truly a rare treat, usually possible only when traveling.” /food/cooking-in-the- 1800s
Historical Time Period Evidence My thinking “The Indian boy did something completely natural.” page 67 paragraph 7. Back then the Indians were very natural and that’s how Indians are so that was good to include in the book.
Historical Time Period EvidenceMy thinking “Presently he was dry so he unwrapped the buckskin from one of the mules packs on the ground.” page 76 paragraph 5. With this text its shows you the time period with the buckskin was big in clothes back then so that tells a lot of the time period.
Research researchcitation “We use handmade, rustic antler buttons, wooden button, natural bone buttons or black buffalo horn buttons...your choice.” ics.com/clothclothing.htm
Historical Time Period Evidence My thinking “The buckskin shirt had one set of fringes across the chest was open at the throat and its bottom fell almost a foot below his waist.” page 77 paragraph 8. With the buckskin it keeps you warm in the winter back then and at night like you can use them as blankets to keep you warm so that tells a lot of the time period to. Back then in the 1800s they had a lot of buckskin clothes.
Historical Time Period Evidence My thinking “Mr. Grimes had also picked up a pair of plain ankle high moccasin's.” page 77 paragraph 9. The last one tells a lot of the time period and what they use for shoes and those are moccasin's those keep you feet warm all day and that was good to include in the book to tell the time period. In 1800s they had fur shoes and back then they did not have a name for them so when the years went on they called them moccasins.
Research researchcitation “moccasins are something that the mass media widely associates with Native American people. Unlike these other objects, however, moccasins really are a part of Choctaw traditional culture. Today, a wide variety of moccasins are made, including mass produced moccasins that come in boxes with marked shoes sizes,”
