EUROCONTROL PETAL II PETAL II in operational environment at Maastricht Upper Air Control Centre With line ATC controllers Revenue and non-revenue flights of American Airlines 767-300ERs Also conducted test flights with Qinetiq BAC1-11 in a test sector configuration Flight operations completed September 01 PETAL II was a Success Demonstrated viability/suitability of CPDLC over VDLM2/ATN Worked out many technical and ops issues for CPDLC over VDLM2/ATN in a trials environment Basis for US-based CPDLC program and Link 2000+

ARINC has installed the US ATN/VDLM2 ground network FAA CPDLC Build 1 CPDLC Build 1 partners, in a consensus decision, replanned CPDLC Build 1 Technical validation and operational evaluation conducted Operational service begins Sep 02 and lasts until Build 1A (Dec 05) ARINC has installed the US ATN/VDLM2 ground network 4 stations in FL operational (MCO, RSW, GNV, MIA) Provides partial coverage of the Miami ARTCC airspace to support testing pre-operational testing 5 additional stations (9 total) to be operational by Sep 02 FAA flight tests with Rockwell Collins In the Miami ARTCC Three successful flights on 22, 24 January 02
