Slide 2 Hafer & Wienrich GbR Competence vs. Qualification Education, Study, vocational Training Examination, Certification Working and professional life Qualification Model: Competence Development Model: Study work experiences hobbies - interests Education Skills and Competences interacting with working and professional life

Slide 3 Hafer & Wienrich GbR Competence Fields (according to Erpenbeck, Heyse 1999) “object world” “personal competences” “social competence” “process & subject related competence” reflections, attitudes, values expert knowledge communication skills

Slide 4 Hafer & Wienrich GbR The (e)portfolio approach What is an ePortfolio? –“An e-portfolio is a digitized collection of artifacts including demonstrations, resources, and accomplishments that represent an individual, group, or institution. This collection can be comprised of text-based, graphic, or multimedia elements archived on a Web site or on other electronic media such as a CD-ROM or DVD. –An e-portfolio is more than a simple collection—it can also serve as an administrative tool to manage and organize work created with different applications and to control who can see the work. –E-portfolios encourage personal reflection and often involve the exchange of ideas and feedback.” »An Overview of E-Portfolios: G. Lorenzo & J. Ittelson 2005

Slide 9 Hafer & Wienrich GbR Outlooks and boundaries Users need guidance and instruction to use the ePortfolio properly. An ePortfolio does not create “competence” – the User does! We need well designed interfaces to import and document offline acitvities and experiences. Within the next 10 Years the use of ePortfolios for presentation, documentation and communication will become common.
